Nightlife

Nightlife in Cascais is as varied as it is lively. This delightful coastal town some thirty kilometres west of Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, offers a mix of relaxed eateries, lively bars and pumping nightclubs, guaranteed to keep its well-heeled clientele occupied from dusk until dawn. Wherever you choose to spend your evening, two things are certain – you will never be far from the sea and you cannot fail to be entertained.

Downtown Cascais makes a fun and laid-back location to spend an evening. The area drops away to the main town beach of O Pescador and the lively bars and late night restaurants often spill out onto the streets and down to the water’s edge where a fun-loving clientele often remain until well into the early hours.

Die-hard disco fans head to Coconuts, also close to the marina. Coconuts is the perfect destination for dance music lovers, with two dance rooms, a sophisticated outdoor terrace and even a karaoke room for those brave enough to give their vocal chords a workout. For more karaoke fun, head to Baluarte, also located in the marina.

Cascais Restaurants

It’s no secret that the food in Portugal is absolutely amazing. Cascais is doubly blessed when it comes to dining options. Close to the sea, there is an abundance of fresh fish and seafood available. Fresh fish, shrimp, octopus, clams, and more are often prepared simply and with favorite local preparations. Cascais restaurants also serve some hyper-local specialties of the area like the santiaguiños, tiny slipper lobsters found only in the region. Some restaurants like Marisco na Praça Mercado let you see what items they have fresh that day and mix and match your perfect meal. Codfish is a national favorite served a thousand different ways while octopus is often enjoyed “à lagreiro” style with garlic, olive oil, and potatoes or in a salad.

In 1945 it was enlarged to 18 holes and has in the past been several times host to the Portuguese Open. Estoril Golf is thought by many players as being one of the most outstanding courses to play in Portugal. Although a short golf course at only 5,808, it demands excellent accuracy as there is an uneven terrain with some tight fairways.

Quinta da Marinha Golf

The characteristics of the Quinta da Marinha Golf Course are its elevated greens and tees, combined with many bunkers in play and some water hazards. This par 71 course offers fantastic panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Mountains. Every hole is different, and you will have to use all the clubs in the bag and play with strategy for a good score. The most spectacular hole on the Quinta da Marinha Golf Course is hole No.13, a Par 4 of 339 meters that slopes down towards the sea. Once on the green, the golfer has the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. The following Hole No.14, a Par 3, requires a very precise shot for the ball to cross a cliff and reach a wide but not very deep green.
